It’s hard to quantify the impact founder Andy Elton has had on Capisco Ltd.
He wore many hats (our favourite being his polka dotted ‘welding hat’) and was there for his staff in whatever capacity they needed him - father figure, creative advisor, sparring partner.
A real man of the 60s - he was a fiery and passionate artist whose tenacity forged Capisco into the company it is today.
In 1997, Andy’s partnered with fabricator Ali Thoburn to help build Capisco into an organisation robust enough to service the diversity of projects that were coming its way.
Andy established a Small is Beautiful foundry at Capisco headquarters from 2012-2020. He also had a studio for his marble carving in Normandy.
Andy died unexpectedly in July 2022 leaving behind a rich legacy.
Capisco continues to honour that legacy by delivering hand applied patinas of the highest quality and remaining- like Andy- a little bit rock n’roll.
After graduating from CSA in the late 60s, Andy went to Cararra, Italy where he worked at Studio Corsanini while also honing his skills in patination at the famous foundries of Tomasi & Belifiouri.
He returned to the UK to run his own highly successful Art foundry - A&A Sculpture Casting (est.1976) for nearly two decades.
Andy identified a niche in providing bespoke hand applied patinas on a more industrial scale. Architects had begun to show an interest in this ‘niche’ and Capisco was formed in 1989 to serve it.
