No1 Poultry
James Stirling
No 1 Poultry was James Stirling's last completed building designed in 1985 but not completed until 1997, five years after the famous architects death.
Working on-site from scaffold Capisco provided remedial patination to several elements to a custom CAP 1 BMA patina. Elements include windows, curtain glazing, basement shop fronts, ground floor shop fronts, roof top garden, flag pole and items - including a roof top restaurant.
An example of post-modern architecture with rich history it was commissioned by Peter Palumbo in 1985, who over 20 years before had fought to replace the building that previously stood there (The Mappin & Webb Building) with a Mies Van der Roche design.
Always characterful Stirling’s design is playful with a turret, pink and yellow stonework detailing and Egyptian references.
A feat of post-modern architecture No 1 Poultry has been listed at Grade II*, just a year after a previous bid was rejected. This makes it the youngest building to have currently achieved such a status.
