The Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery of China & South Asia

Capisco were happy to provide patinated signage for The Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery of China & South Asia of The British Museum.

We were delighted to be part of this intuitive re-design by Nissen Richards which reflects the ancient vibrant artefacts located within.

The longest gallery in the British Museum our patinated CAP 55 signage and lighting elements create a cohesive guide to the space. The patinated brass is repetitively used to highlight key parts of the exhibition: gallery introductions, lighting elements, museum barriers and AV screens.

The signage was patinated at our works, then screen-printed with a specialist ink and finally re-waxed to ensure a high level of protection.

We developed a special patina to mark the gateway into the refurbished Selwyn and Ellie Allyne Gallery of Jade antiquities.

These images were taken 6 years after the completion of works. In high traffic areas you can see how the patina has ‘developed’ with new nuances and contrasts. In other areas it has remained intact to how it was when originally installed.
